Or is it “still”? Those nutballs are always getting their panties in a twist over one supposed “outrage” or another. They’ve gone on for so long that all they amount to these days is background chatter.

Their latest excuse for soiling themselves comes from a little place in North Carolina, going by the name of Brassville. See, up in New Yawk, they drap a ball at New Years. In Brassville (population about 250), they cain’t afferd that kinda stuff, so what they does is they check under the porch, find theirselves a possum, and they stick that rascal in a clear box. Then they hoist it up inna air, and when the Magic Moment arrives, wellsir, they lower it back down ta the ground again. By and by, they send ol’ mister possum on his merry way.

This year, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals has called on the state Wildlife Resources Commission to put a halt to the tradition, saying the activity is cruel and illegal.

“Ignorance of the law is not a defense, and cruelty to animals is indefensible,” PETA Director Delcianna Winders said. “Using a captive opossum as the centerpiece of a raucous party is cruel and illegal.
