Brain-Eating Flies

As you may know, South American fire ants have gained a foothold in the southern USA, having apparently arrived by ship between 1933 and 1945. They’re deadly little beasts, and in order to combat them, the feds have been importing Brazillian brain-eating flies. The flies lay eggs on the ants, and the resulting larvae bore into the critters’ heads, where they feast upon the brains. Sounds like a plan – but what happens when the ant numbers dwindle, as is now occurring?

Unsurprisingly, it appears that they adapt by selecting alternative hosts.

Moreover, they seem to have made it to the Pacific Northwest; specifically, to Oregon.

Portlanders, cover your Democrats! Hide them from the flies!
