I am proud and humbled to celebrate the first anniversary of this blog. It has evolved quite a bit in its first year.

I am most proud of the contributors who have agreed to post their stories at 54°40’ Or Fight! We now have 21 active contributors from around the State of Oregon. Several veteran bloggers have agreed to cross post their best work here, and a whole bunch of rookies have stepped up to the plate. I’ve been gratified to be able to mentor new bloggers and help them to develop into full fledged authors in their own right.

It’s been a wild ride. Having no idea what to expect when we began, we never could have dreamed we’d be here now.

Despite our massive evolution and development, 54°40’ Or Fight! remains committed to its original goals. Especially since the results of the 2012 election, our original mission could not be more important:

Doing the reporting that the legacy media are no longer able to do.

As newspapers, radio stations and television are all cutting their local reporting budgets and relying more on national media outlets and pundits, local stories end up grossly underreported. That leaves the average voter far less informed than they were a generation ago.

We’re here to solve this problem by shining a light on all the political goings on in Oregon. We will network with the best bloggers, citizen journalists, analysts, experts, legacy media partners and policy pundits across Oregon to create the most in-depth content available.

A reader notes that our authors are “feisty, but not bitter”.

Knowledge is power.

Thanks,

Jeff
