Dateline November 17, 2012 – Portland Oregon: At an event held at Portland State University Cafeteria that is listed at as a “Public Event” on facebook, a Marxism Instructor tries to shut down the free press. Wael Elasady, who teaches a class in Marxism at Portland State University is one of the organizers for the event: a controversial poetry reading and Palestinian activism meeting. The syllabus for his class reads in part:

“The onset of the Arab Spring revolts in European capitals against austerity, and the emergence of Occupy Wall Street here in the US have made the need for understanding revolutionary political theories is [sic] more urgent than ever. This course is designed to introduce students to the basic concepts of Marxist thought with an emphasis on the ***practical application*** …” [emphasis added]

Elasady notices the camera, walks over and puts his hand in front of it. “Stop videotaping people…” he commands. After some push back from the reporter he backs down. #orwellian.
