2016 the Movie, Voter Education for 2012

Dinesh D’Souza has been accused of many things over the years. He has been accused of falsely representing the words of the Obama Administration many times, he has been called a racist and generally painted by many in the Mainstream media as an alarmist. Those of us who hail from the right side of our political system know him as what he is-an intellectual and amazing scholar. His movie, 2016, which is playing in limited release all over the US illustrates his scholarly prowess in a beautifully creative way.

As a fellow academic, not something I usually refer to myself as, I was bowled over by the level of research and the attention to detail in the production. D’Souza establishes his hypothesis early in the film: Obama is not just a Marxist and Socialist but at his heart is an Anti-Colonialist. Throughout the film, produced by a high-level Hollywood insider who also gave us Schindler’s List and Jurassic Park, D’Souza constructs a complex but beautifully developed argument for his hypothesis about our current President.

Using Obama’s own words taken from his book “Dreams of My Father”, D’Souza retraces Obama’s steps growing up as a rootless young man shaped by a self-loathing mother who rails against fellow American Ex-Pats who work with her second husband in Indonesia as “Not MY people” and a grandfather who finds a literal card carrying Soviet agent of influence, Frank Marshall Davis, to be his grandson’s male role model. It is frankly amazing to me that with these beginnings he did not end up on a commune in the Ventana Wilderness instead of the White House. The only thing that seemed to propel this young man to follow the path to power in the USA was a deeply rooted need to prove himself worthy of his fathers anti-colonialist ideals.

According to his own grandmother, Sara Obama, Barack Obama the President has come close to accomplishing what his anti-colonialist father had wanted. To bring the colonial oppressors to their knees and to destroy the country that has long been viewed as the “shining city on a hill”-America. In her own words in an interview with Newsweek, Sarah Obama said, “I look at him and I see all the same things — he has taken everything from his father . . . this son is realizing everything the father wanted.”

In 2016 D’Souza asks what does an anti-colonialist want? Well anti-colonialists are driven to seek the destruction of any country that occupies another nation and strips them of their resources for gain, much like what the British did in India, Singapore and Hong Kong the U.S. did in the Philippines.

Did you notice that one, very important word in that last sentence? Occupy. Sound familiar? That is because the Occupy Wall Street movement is another arm, another form if you will, of the same movement that Obama Sr. and Barack Obama are dedicated to ideologically. The Occupy movement seeks to reduce the influence of corporations-in other words they want to “drive out the occupiers” of the American capitalist system-the banks, the insurance companies and so on. D’Souza posits that this is why the Obama Administration has given the Occupy movement in this country free license to protest and disrupt the nations business.

The anti-colonialist views have also shaped Obama’s seemingly illogical Middle East policy. This by far, for me, was the most chilling part of the movie. D’Souza called on Daniel Pipes, Sr. Visiting Fellow at the Hoover Institute at Stanford University to explain this part of the Obama agenda-which he does beautifully. The choice of Daniel Pipes for this should not be overlooked. Mr. Pipes is not just another academic, he was one of the first academics to raise the alert and warn people of the dangers posed to us by Islamist radicals in the late 1990’s and early 2000’s. If we look at Obama’s Middle East policy through the same anti-colonialist glass his actions make much more sense. If you support the overthrowing of the last secular governments in the region, namely Libya, Egypt and Syria to pave the way for an Islamist version of the United States (Egypt has fallen to the Muslim Brotherhood, AlQueda is rampant in Libya, Iran and Saudi Arabia are already Muslim theocracies, and Iraq may not be far behind them). What would this do to Israel? Nothing good!

How would the creation of a unified Islamist Middle East be a problem, besides the disastrous effects for our friend and ally Israel? When paired with the prohibition on off-shore drilling in the U.S. which Obama has already enacted-can you say European style gas prices and a renewed flow of petrodollars to our enemies throughout the region?

In short, I hope that I have given you enough of a reason to go see this film as soon as you can! It truly should be required for every voting age American. As an academic, and as an American Patriot, I applaud Dinesh D’Souza’s bold and creative way of shedding light on someone who should have been vetted prior to his election, President Barack Obama.
